Make a Visible Difference Every Single Day

Erewash Borough Council is looking for motivated, reliable and community-focused Refuse Driver/Loaders to join our Waste and Recycling Services team.

This isn’t just a driving job - it’s a role at the heart of the community. Every collection you complete helps keep our borough clean, safe and sustainable. You’ll play a key role in delivering an essential frontline service that residents depend on every week.

If you enjoy being outdoors, working as part of a supportive team, and taking pride in delivering a vital public service, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of a dedicated and hard-working crew, you will:

  • Drive refuse and recycling vehicles safely and responsibly, following all health and safety procedures
  • Collect household waste, garden waste, food waste and recycling from various receptacles
  • Deliver and retrieve wheeled bins as required
  • Collect and dispose of clinical waste in accordance with regulations
  • Provide a professional, courteous service to residents

Your work will have a direct and positive impact on the local environment and the quality of life for thousands of residents.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking individuals who are:

  • In possession of a full HGV Class 2 driving licence, a valid CPC & Tacho card
  • Experienced working in a customer-focused environment
  • Team players who can also use their initiative when working independently
  • Reliable, responsible and committed to high service standards
  • Physically able to drive an HGV and move full wheeled bins
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

Experience in refuse and recycling collection is desirable but not essential - full support and guidance will be provided. This is a physically active role suited to individuals who enjoy practical, hands-on work and being out and about rather than working behind a desk.

If you’re ready to take pride in delivering a vital public service and want to be part of a team that keeps the borough moving, we’d love to hear from you.

What do we offer?

Monday to Friday working so you can enjoy your weekends. In addition to a competitive salary, the benefits of working for us include:

  • A generous annual leave package – 29 days rising to 33 days annual leave (dependent on service) plus 8 bank holidays a year.
  • Option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) plus access to a salary sacrifice scheme for added voluntary pension contributions.
  • Discounted leisure membership with the Fit for Work Scheme.
  • Opportunities for training, learning and continuous professional development.
  • Free workplace parking within the Borough.
  • Full PPE is provided.
  • Access to health and wellbeing support including an Employee Assistance Programme.
