Are you looking for an exciting challenge with the ability to drive service improvements to residents? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, busy and dynamic environment with multiple workstreams?

The waste and recycling industry is undergoing the most significant change in a generation with the aim of increasing recycling rates, reducing household waste and lowering carbon emissions to provide more sustainable services, all set against the backdrop of Local Government Reorganisation.

We are recruiting for two roles across South Hams, West Devon and Torridge, on a 12 month fixed term contract.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and organised self-starter to join us as a Waste and Recycling Officer delivering waste and recycling services.

One role will be across West Devon and Torridge and the other across South Hams.

The key aspects of the South Hams role include:

  • Safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of waste and recycling collection services and increasing recycling rates.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain excellent relationships with residents, colleagues, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Delivering new services in line with the Environment Act 2021

The postholder will be responsible for managing service delivery within their specific geographical area, which will include proactive Recycling monitoring, problem solving, engaging with residents both over the telephone and face-to-face to manage, complaints and service failures with the aim of driving service improvements.

The key aspects of the role West Devon role include:

  • Monitoring of Recycling participations across both districts and taking proactive steps to increase participation

The postholder will be responsible for monitoring and improving recycling rates within their specific geographical area, which will include proactive Recycling monitoring, problem solving, engaging with residents both over the telephone and face-to-face to manage, with the aim of driving an increase in the Recycling rate.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills; a passion for service delivery and the ability to prioritise work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A proactive approach to problem solving and tackling challenges is fundamental to identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve service delivery.
