We are currently hiring a Recycling and Waste Officer. You will help to monitor and improve the recycling and waste services, ensuring outstanding customer service and service delivery standards are achieved. You will also engage with residents about the recycling services, promoting waste minimisation and encourage behaviour change to help us work towards waste targets.

About the role

This is a key role within our Recycling and Waste team, based at our depot at Warren Lane in Hurst Green. The successful candidate will:

  • Support and assist with the delivery and monitoring of the Council’s recycling and waste contracts.
  • Investigate and resolve service failures and collection / health and safety issues.
  • Respond to complaints and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Promote recycling and assist with reviewing waste storage plans for new developments.
  • Support data gathering and analysis for service improvement.

Who we’re looking for

Someone who is enthusiastic about recycling and waste services and enjoys working with the public. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in waste services.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational and data analysis skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Local Government Reorganisation

Surrey is part of the government’s plans for local government reorganisation. This means the current two tier system, where services are split between Surrey County Council and district and borough councils like Tandridge, will be replaced with larger councils, which handle all local services.

Although this may lead to some uncertainty for anyone considering a role with us, we need to continue to provide services.

When local government is reorganised, most staff will transfer to the new council on their current terms and conditions. Being part of a larger organisation may offer additional opportunities for career development and variety. The majority of the roles we currently have will still be needed whether that is for planning, housing, recycling and waste, finance, IT, HR etc.
