Luton Borough Council is seeking caring and motivated Reablement Support Workers to support adults to regain independence, confidence and wellbeing following illness, injury or a change in circumstances.
Working in line with individual care and reablement plans, you will providepersonal, practical and rehabilitative support to help people maximise their independence in their own homes. This will include supporting individuals with daily living tasks, personal care where required, and encouraging skills development that promotes long-term independence rather than ongoing reliance on support.
You will carry out therapeutic activities and skills practice in accordance with agreed plans to help individuals improve and maintain mobility, transfers and daily living skills, while building confidence and resilience. A key part of the role is encouraging and empowering people to make their own decisions, cope with change or loss, maintain social contacts and activities, and manage a safe and supportive home environment.
You will be responsible for observing, recording and reporting any changes in an individual’s condition or circumstances, ensuring concerns are escalated promptly to senior staff in line with policies, procedures and safeguarding responsibilities. This helps to ensure the ongoing health, wellbeing and safety of the people you support.
The role also involves researching and providing information about community and national resources, including social activities, benefits advice, local services, and cultural or religious support groups. You will signpost individuals to appropriate services to help them stay connected and supported within their community.
You will work in line with equalities best practice, ensuring that all service users are treated fairly, respectfully and without discrimination, and that support is tailored to individual needs, preferences and backgrounds. You will also be expected to comply with local policies and national standards, participate in training and appraisal processes, and contribute to the continuous improvement of both personal practice and service delivery.

About you
You are a caring, reliable and motivated individual with an interest in supporting people to regain independence and live safely in their own homes. You have some experience of working unsupervised as part of a team, using your initiative while knowing when to seek advice or escalate concerns.
You have experience of working in partnership with other agencies and are able to represent a professional service positively. You demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, enabling you to communicate sensitively and respectfully with individuals, carers, relatives and professional colleagues.
You are confident in using your own judgement toidentify, report and act on concerns, following policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people you support. You have good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to keep accurate records and use IT systems and electronic monitoring tools as part of your daily work.
You have a strong understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and are able to apply this in all aspects of your practice, ensuring support is fair, respectful and tailored to individual needs. You demonstrate knowledge of, and a commitment to, reablement and rehabilitation principles, with a clear focus on promoting independence and enabling individuals to remain at home for as long as possible.
You are able to carry out therapeutic activities and support individuals to develop or regain daily living skills in line with their care or support plan, always encouraging confidence and independence. You either hold, or are willing to work towards, anNVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) within 12 months of appointment.
You are physically able to undertake manual handling tasks in line with training and risk assessments. You hold a current, valid driving licence and are willing to use your own vehicle for daily travel across the borough.
You are flexible and able to work arotating shift pattern, including regular weekends, evenings and some bank holidays, to meet the needs of the service.
