Job Description
Salary: Part Time (20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 38 weeks per year, no Teacher Training Days)
Hours of work: 22.5 hours per week

All about the role:
The Avenue Primary School and Children’s Centre is looking to appoint a caring, dedicated and proactive Pupil and Parent Support Assistant to support pupils and families, including our military families. Working closely with the Headteacher, DSL, SENCO and wider school team, the successful candidate will lead Early Help, support safeguarding as an Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, liaise with external agencies including Wiltshire Council, manage referrals and attend relevant meetings. They will provide emotional and practical support to children and parents, promote attendance and inclusion, and offer targeted support to military families experiencing issues such as deployment and transition. The role also involves maintaining positive links with the military community, keeping up to date with relevant services and training, and maintaining accurate records. Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous, although relevant training will be provided.
As a Pupil Parent Support worker, you will be required to provide a range of support to our children and their families, helping to address any challenges and improve outcomes. This may include helping children with SEN needs, behavioural, emotional and social development and communication skills, while also supporting parents with parenting techniques, family issues and providing advice on how to access to other support services.

• Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work with a variety of pupils, staff, parents and external agencies;
• Enjoys working with children and can develop positive working relationships with them;
• Has superb attention to detail and organisational skills;
• Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
• Has previous experience in supporting children / families;
• Has knowledge/experience of military life (or is willing to learn about it);
• Is a strong team player, who is able to work effectively with our hardworking, talented and friendly team on whole school issues;
• Is dedicated, self-motivated and consistent with a flexible attitude;
• Is an active listener with the ability to be sympathetic and supportive, but firm when needed;
• Understands and is sympathetic to the needs of young children;
• Is committed to improving the life chances of all children;
• Is willing to learn and attend relevant training.
