What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved
This role involves leading on project management of the delivery of two major initiatives: the Holborn Liveable Neighbourhood programme and the Better, Safer Kilburn scheme.
The Holborn LN programme (HLN) is an ambitious £55m project that will transform the area into safe, healthy, accessible streets and climate-resilient streets, while enhancing public spaces and supporting local businesses and attractions such as the British Museum. The HLN is currently in feasibility stage and we are gearing up for a public consultation in Summer 2026.
The Better, Safer Kilburn scheme is a £12m project to make the town centre a safer and more attractive place to visit, improve air quality, encourage walking and cycling, and create a more pleasant and welcoming town centre. Working with neighbouring Boroughs Brent and Westminster, the scheme has been approved for delivery following consultation and is gearing up to implementation phases.
As a Principal Transport Planner, you will project manage and oversee the design, consultation, and implementation phases of Healthy Streets schemes within these programmes. You will coordinate with internal departments and external partners, including Transport for London, to ensure successful delivery. Your role will also involve conducting community engagement and consultation, ensuring inclusivity and effective outcomes, and contributing to strategic initiatives such as urban greening and high street renewal. You will prepare high-quality reports, manage budgets, and maintain financial oversight while driving innovative solutions in a dynamic environment.
You will be responsible for line managing a Senior Transport Planner in a pro-active, innovative, and dynamic way, helping this officer deliver a portfolio of Healthy Streets projects and support their personal development.

All About You
To be successful in securing this role you will have strong experience of successful project management and delivery of complex heathy streets schemes. You will also have a strong understanding and experience of the policy and statutory framework within which Healthy Streets, transport planning and related activities.
You will be a pro-active and forward-thinking experienced project manager, capable of successfully managing initiatives, often over-lapping with one another, both on time and to budget.
You will be able to demonstrate effective partnership working and the ability to develop strong stakeholder relations, including liaising with all relevant external organisations such as TfL, GLA, other boroughs and external funders.
To ensure success in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding and appreciate of issues specifically around streetscape design, accessibility, and sustainability.
You will be able to help prepare high quality papers and reports for Council Committees, public meetings, and other bodies such as appeals and public inquiries (may be required to attend such events as and when necessary).
You will have need to have an ability to work closely and effectively with elected members, and have an appreciation of the Camden’s political landscape, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. And you will need to show professionalism and expertise in Healthy Streets/LN schemes matters on behalf of the Council at both internal and external meetings, and help advance the Council’s strategic transport positions and priorities at such meetings.
You will be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively help support and oversee the workload of more junior members of a team and/or consultants.
