About the role

Are you looking for a rewarding role where no two days are the same? We're seeking a motivated and experienced Pest Control Officer to join our dedicated Environmental Health team within Community Services.

As our Pest Control Officer, you'll play a vital role in protecting public health and improving the quality of life for residents and businesses across the borough of Crawley. Working both independently and as part of a wider professional team, you'll tackle a diverse range of pest control challenges while supporting Environmental Health colleagues with issues affecting local communities, such as overgrown and neglected premises.

This is a hands-on role that combines practical pest control expertise with customer engagement and partnership working. You'll regularly interact with residents, businesses, contractors, colleagues and external agencies, making excellent communication and customer service skills essential.

You'll also represent us in liaison with statutory authorities and industry partners, helping to coordinate pest control activities across the borough and occasionally leading liaison meetings.

In addition to field work, you'll take responsibility for maintaining pest control stores, equipment and workspaces, ensuring that approved pesticides are stored safely and stock levels are effectively managed. You'll play an important role in ensuring all operations are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and our health and safety policies.

To succeed in this role, you'll need previous pest control experience together with a recognised qualification in pest management and the safe use of pesticides, such as the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) Level 2 Award or equivalent.

If you're passionate about protecting communities, enjoy solving problems, and want to make a visible difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.

Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

Local Government Reorganisation is planned across Sussex, with new unitary authorities expected by 2028. While this represents a significant change for councils, most roles will continue to focus on delivering vital services to our residents and business communities. As the future structure evolves, our name may change, but what won’t is our commitment to providing excellent services and supporting our employees. Joining us now means being part of a dedicated team during an important and evolving time for local government.
