Personalisation Monitoring Officer (2 Posts)
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Personalisation Team as a Personalisation Monitoring Officer, carrying out auditing, monitoring and closedowns of Direct Payment accounts and Supported Managed Accounts. This helps to ensure public funds are used appropriately while keeping choice, control and wellbeing at the heart of care.
A big part of the role is auditing Direct Payment and Supported Managed Accounts. This includes reviewing bank statements, invoices, payroll and timesheets, checking spending aligns with the support plan, confirming client contributions, and spotting anything that doesn’t quite add up.
If you enjoy detail, pattern‑spotting, investigating and getting things right, this part of the role is hugely satisfying!
This role is very people‑centred. We regularly liaise with service users, family members, appointees, agents and solicitors, explaining audit outcomes clearly and supporting people to understand what’s needed.
You will be responsible for the recovery of any unspent money following the monitoring, audit and closedown processes, ensuring compliance with the Care Act and other legislation.
Good organisation and clear record‑keeping are key, and if you enjoy a well‑structured folder or a neatly documented case note, you’ll fit right in.
If you enjoy variety, a balance between independent work and teamwork, being organised, talking to others, solving problems and having a role that combines financial accuracy with empathy and human understanding, consider a career with Barnsley Council in the Personalisation Team.
When a Direct Payment ends, we complete a final audit, confirm the account balance and arrange for any unused funds to be returned to the local authority. Depending upon the circumstances, this requires a sensitive, respectful and compassionate approach, working closely with family members, representatives or solicitors at what can be a very difficult time.
There is also a strong sense of professional satisfaction within this role - seeing everything balance, knowing public money has been recovered correctly, and having all monies returned back to the authority to formally finalise the closedown is extremely satisfying.
We have strong working relationships with colleagues across the wider Commissioning Improvement & Assurance business unit, as well as with social care in adult’s and children’s services. This joint working makes a real difference to outcomes for people.
