Help shape healthier workplaces
At Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, our people are at the heart of everything we do.

As our Occupational Health Nurse, you'll play a key role in helping colleagues stay well at work, supporting those experiencing health challenges, and enabling safe and sustainable returns to work.

This is more than a clinical role. It's an opportunity to shape organisational wellbeing, influence positive workplace health outcomes and contribute to creating a healthy, inclusive and supportive working environment where people can thrive.

We are seeking an individual who can work confidently and independently across a broad range of occupational health activities including management referrals, fitness for work assessments, sickness absence management, return to work planning, workplace adjustments, health surveillance and health promotion. A recognised Occupational Health qualification and significant occupational health experience are essential.

You'll work closely with employees, managers and professional partners, providing expert advice, practical solutions and compassionate support that positively impacts lives every day.

Your day-to-day work will include
  • Undertaking occupational health assessments and providing evidence-based fitness for work advice and recommendations to employees and managers.
  • Managing a varied caseload of management referrals, advising on sickness absence, workplace adjustments, ill health, fitness for work and attendance-related matters.
  • Delivering statutory health surveillance programmes and ensuring the Council meets its legal duties to protect employees working in risk-critical roles and environments.
  • Undertaking pre-employment health assessments and providing advice on fitness for employment and reasonable workplace adjustments.
  • Working with managers, Health & Safety colleagues and external healthcare professionals to identify and manage occupational health risks.
  • Contributing to the continuous development and improvement of the Council's Occupational Health Service.

About you
We're looking for a qualified and experienced Occupational Health Nurse who combines professional expertise with a genuine passion for supporting people.
