    About Camden

At Camden, we’re building somewhere everyone can thrive. We want our borough to be the best place to live, work, study, and visit. We’re not just home to the UK’s fastest-growing economy – we’re home to bold ideas, radical social change, and a community spirit that ensures no one gets left behind. Join us, and you’ll be part of shaping a better future for everyone.

    The role

We’re looking for a skilled Multi-Trader to join Camden’s in-house Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team. You’ll play a key role in supporting heating installations across our housing stock, making sure homes are left safe, clean, and finished to a high standard.

From boxing in new pipework and patch plastering walls, to minor tiling, decorating, and general making-good works, your role will ensure our residents’ homes are treated with care and respect. You’ll also support gas engineers on-site with two-person tasks, materials handling, and clean-up.

    What you’ll do

    • Complete making-good works following heating installations, including carpentry, plastering, painting, and tiling.

    • Assist gas engineers with lifting, positioning, and preparation tasks.

    • Maintain tools, vehicle stock, and accurate work records.

    • Deliver excellent customer service when working in residents’ homes.

    • Report any safeguarding or property concerns.

    • Work flexibly across trades and adapt to the daily needs of the service.

    About you

    We’re looking for someone with:

    • Proven experience as a multi-trade operative in housing, maintenance, or construction.

    • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in carpentry, building repairs, or maintenance operations.

    • Skills in patch plastering, painting, basic carpentry, and tiling.

    • A strong understanding of health and safety.

    • Good communication skills and sensitivity when working in occupied homes.

    • Physical fitness for manual handling and confined space work.

    • A full UK driving licence (essential for site travel).

    Training & Progression

At Camden, we’ll support your growth. This role can be a pathway into more specialist positions, such as a qualified gas engineer. We’ll provide structured training, access to industry qualifications, and opportunities to broaden your trade skills.

    Working for Camden

At Camden, we’re not afraid to do things differently. We welcome your ideas, your views, and your energy. In return, we offer a flexible and supportive environment, a range of staff benefits, and the opportunity to help redefine what a career in local government can be.

    Inclusion and Diversity

We want Camden Council to reflect the communities we serve. That means we value diversity in all its forms, including diversity of thought. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and other Ethnic Minority communities, LGBTQ+, disabled, and neurodiverse candidates.

Equalities and justice sit at the heart of what we do, and we need diverse voices to help us make a real difference.

    Accessibility and Adjustments

We are committed to making our recruitment process as accessible as possible. If you need any adjustments during the application, interview, or assessment process or if you’d like information in an alternative format, please contact us at resourcing@camden.gov.uk or call 020 7974 6655.
