Mechanical Engineer
Mechanical Engineer – Design Services
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary Design Services team.
The Council owns and operates a large and diverse property portfolio, creating an interesting range of engineering challenges. The role covers traditional building services alongside the growing demands of retrofit, decarbonisation, district and communal heating, low-carbon technologies and building safety.
You will work across a variety of existing buildings and projects, helping us find practical, sustainable solutions that improve performance, reduce energy use and ensure our buildings remain safe and fit for the future.
Your work could include:
- heating, ventilation, hot and cold water and associated building services;
- retrofit, heat pumps and low-carbon heating solutions;
- district and communal heating systems;
- energy efficiency, controls and building performance;
- technical surveys, feasibility studies, design and specification; and
- working within the requirements of the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and CDM.
You will work alongside architects, structural engineers, building surveyors and other specialists, so good communication and a collaborative approach are important.
You will be a professionally registered Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng), with membership of CIBSE, IMechE or another relevant professional institution. This reflects the professional registration requirement in the current Job Description.
If you enjoy solving real building problems and want to help shape a safer, more sustainable public estate, we would like to hear from you.
