LGV Driver/ Labourer

Grade 4 £25,989 - £26,403

Location: Copse Road Depot, Fleetwood

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

About the Role

Wyre Council is seeking a hardworking and reliable LGV Driver / Labourer to support the delivery of essential frontline environmental services across the borough. This is a key operational role within our Street Cleansing service, helping to keep Wyre clean, safe and welcoming for residents and visitors.

You will be responsible for driving LGV vehicles as well as undertaking a range of street cleansing and general labouring duties. The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and providing a visible, professional presence within local communities.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive and operate LGV and other service vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out mechanised street cleansing, bin emptying and general cleaning duties.
  • Provide direction and support to colleagues working alongside the vehicle.
  • Respond to environmental issues, including the removal and safe disposal of fly‑tipped waste.
  • Undertake general labouring and loading duties associated with street cleansing operations.
  • Maintain a vigilant presence across the borough to help deter environmental crime and anti‑social behaviour.
  • Operate equipment, plant and machinery in line with health and safety requirements.
  • Act professionally and courteously when always dealing with members of the public.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • A current, valid LGV class 2 (C) driving licence.
  • Previous experience working in a street cleaning, street scene or similar operational environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety at work and safe working practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Physically able to undertake outdoor manual duties.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and bank holidays.

Desirable:

  • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent qualification.
  • CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence).
  • Experience operating cleansing vehicles, plant or machinery including sweepers
  • Understanding of good customer care practices.
