We are looking for a proactive Waste Operations Team Leader to join our Waste Services team. This is an exciting internal only opportunity to lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of the East Kent Waste Services Contract, ensuring high standards of service across both Folkestone & Hythe and Dover District Councils.

You will manage a team and provide leadership, coaching, and support to ensure effective contract monitoring, complaint resolution, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monitoring and performance of the Council’s recycling, waste, and cleansing contract.
  • Lead proactive and reactive inspections, investigations, and KPI reporting.
  • Manage responses to service queries, complaints, and defaults within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise with contractors and stakeholders to resolve issues and implement service improvements.
  • Manage budgets and procurement for litter and dog-waste bins.
  • Represent the Council at meetings with community groups and partner organisations.
  • Support the Head of Waste Services with reports, policies, and contract development.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree-level education (ideally in Waste or an Environmental subject) or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in contract management.
  • Strong knowledge of waste, recycling, cleansing, and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to travel around the districts.

We have a hybrid working approach with an expectation that you will work from the DDC Offices in Whitfield, Dover at least two days per week.

While employed by Folkestone & Hythe Distirct Council the post holder will be seconded to (and line managed by) Dover District Council.
