Are you an experienced vehicle workshop professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for maintaining the highest safety standards? Luton Council is seeking a dedicated Inspection Technician to join our busy and professional fleet services team.
As an Inspection Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting vehicles, plant, equipment and their associated components in a safe, efficient and economical manner. You will ensure that quality standards laid down by the Department for Transport, Council procedures, Health and Safety policies and internal quality systems are consistently met.
Working in a fast-paced workshop environment, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and reliable fleet that supports essential public services across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles, plant and equipment to statutory and internal standards
- Ensure full compliance with Department for Transport regulations and Council policies
- Produce clear and concise technical reports
- Interpret and adhere to procedures and regulatory requirements
- Plan and organise your workload to support the smooth running of the inspection service
- Work largely unsupervised while contributing effectively within a close-knit team
- Communicate technical information clearly and professionally to a wide range of stakeholders

About you
You will bring demonstrable experience of undertaking similar work in a busy vehicle workshop environment and have a methodical, thorough approach with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
You will also have:
- DVSA approved Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Class 4 and 7)
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation within a vehicle maintenance and repair environment
- The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately
- A full, current driving licence
- Confidence in dealing with people in a polite, helpful and professional manner
- The ability to explain technical information simply and clearly
- An understanding of the effects of discrimination on service delivery and colleagues
