The Information Governance Team strives to ensure that the Council complies with its obligations under Data Protection Legislation, provides transparency to the public, and champions excellent records management across the organisation.

A rare opportunity has arisen for an Information Governance Officer to join the Council to support the IG Manager. The Council appreciates that Information Governance professionals are few and far between and as such, if you are not an established Information Governance Practitioner, candidates with transferrable skills will be considered for this role.

We are seeking a resilient, well organised and committed individual to support the IG Manager in maintaining information governance policies, procedures, processes, and controls and to provide day-to-day administration of routine information management and insolvency functions.

This is a key post, reporting to the IG Manager and will be instrumental in interpreting and applying information governance codes of practice and legislation in a practical and easily understood way.

The post holder will manage requests for information made to the Council under the GDPR, DPA, FOIA, EIR and Insolvency in compliance with legislation, best practice, and internal Council policies and, amongst other things, will assist with supporting colleagues across the Council who act as DPA/FOIA contacts within their services with a view to ensuring that best practice is embedded within their teams.

The successful candidate must be keen, motivated, meticulous, and able to work in a small team. They will be required to provide information governance advice to colleagues in a large, diverse organisation and interpret complex legislation, as well as provide guidance and practical solutions to colleagues to ensure information governance compliance.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. Candidates must be able to work under pressure and deal sensitively with confidential information. The ability to proactively maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance is also required.
