Job Introduction

Are you looking for an opportunity to learn, develop and make a difference to local communities?

If so, join East Staffordshire Borough Council as our Housing Strategy Apprentice and gain practical experience supporting the work that helps shape housing provision across the borough. From understanding local housing needs to supporting affordable housing projects, you’ll discover how research, data and partnership working help turn housing priorities into action.

About the role

Working with the Housing Manager and Housing Strategy Officer, you’ll support a varied programme of housing strategy work while developing your knowledge and professional skills. You’ll undertake a Chartered Institute of Housing course at a level determined by your previous education and experience, with support to attend lectures, complete coursework and put your learning into practice:

  • Gather and analyse housing data to help identify local needs and inform strategies, policies and action plans.
  • Help monitor affordable housing delivery and maintain accurate records of homes across the borough.
  • Support the administration of affordable home ownership schemes, including First Homes and Discounted Sale Housing, and help applicants understand the process.
  • Work with colleagues, developers, housing providers and other partners to support housing projects and consultations.
  • Develop your confidence in preparing reports, presenting information, responding to enquiries and managing priorities.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised and ready to learn, with strong communication skills, a helpful approach to customer service and confidence using Word, Excel and Outlook. You’ll be comfortable working with numbers and information, keeping accurate records and working both independently and as part of a team. Your experience may come from study, volunteering, employment or community involvement.

You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above, including English and Mathematics, plus either two A Levels, a T Level, a BTEC or housing experience. You must also meet the apprenticeship provider’s entry requirements and be committed to completing the programme, including off-the-job training. The role includes attending meetings, training and site

visits across the borough, with occasional evening meetings or consultation events if required.

Please see the job description and person specification for the full essential and desirable criteria.
