As part of Staffordshire’s Sustainability and Waste Management Service, you’ll play a vital role in shaping a greener future. Our service is at the heart of responsible waste disposal and recycling, operating 14 household waste recycling centres and driving innovative solutions for waste treatment and recovery.
We’re looking for a dynamic Team Leader to inspire and guide our dedicated team, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional customer service. Main ResponsibilitiesIn this role you'll:
- Run the Household Waste Recycling Centre safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental permits.
- Provide clear, hands‑on leadership on site, setting high standards for customer service, safety and cleanliness
- Supervise site staff, including completing inductions, managing absences, allocating daily tasks.
- Encourage and enforce high recycling rates.
- Open and close the HWRC in line with agreed opening hours, completing all required safety and site checks.
- Monitor waste and recycling container levels and site stock, working with haulage contractors to ensure the site always has enough capacity.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and paperwork, including Duty of Care documentation, waste transfer notes, consignment records.
- Safely operate and oversee mobile plant and carrying out daily checks and reporting any faults or defects.
- Enforce site rules, traffic management arrangements, and charging or permit policies to keep the site safe and well organised.
- Supervise site users, contractors, and visitors to ensure health, safety, and environmental rules are followed at all times.
- Record and report accidents, near misses, unsafe behaviour, or rule breaches in line with Council procedures.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, keeping the site, buildings, and surrounding areas clean, tidy, and free from litter.
- Keep daily site logs and visitor records as required for legal and operational purposes.
- Work weekends and bank holidays and travel to other HWRC sites across Staffordshire when needed.
You'll need:
- Ability to safely operate site equipment and carry out basic daily checks.
- Confident team leader, able to supervise and motivate staff.
- Good communication skills and a helpful, customer‑focused approach.
- Ability to apply site rules and health & safety procedures fairly and professionally.
- Well organised, able to manage a busy workload and adapt to change.
- Able to complete simple paperwork and use electronic systems accurately.
- Positive, reliable, and professional with a strong focus on safety and the environment.
- Able to work weekends and bank holidays.
- Willing to travel between HWRC sites across Staffordshire.
- Physically able to work outdoors in an operational environment.
