Historic Buildings and Landscape Officer

Job Introduction

Lincolnshire County Council is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative Historic Buildings and Landscape Officer to join its successful Historic Places Team – putting the historic environment at the heart of the county council's place-making role and planning advisory service.

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team working to manage change within the historic environment where the workload can be both challenging and rewarding.

You will provide specialist historic environment advice to the county council in its role as planning authority on consents for its own estate of historic properties. You will also work across teams to provide advice on NSIP projects in Lincolnshire. The postholder will work with government organisations and statutory providers to ensure the highest quality advice is always provided. You will advise on Neighbourhood Plans and Conservation Area Appraisals. You will represent the county council on the Lincolnshire Conservation Officers Group.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with a wide range of partners and communities to help understand, protect, promote and celebrate Lincolnshire's rich built heritage. The position also has a line management responsibility for a temporary project officer.

About you

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate that they can work unsupervised and meet tight deadlines, have good communication skills and manage occasional heritage projects.

To be successful you will have a good working knowledge of British historic buildings and landscapes, how to study those heritage assets as well as having experience of planning and development control processes and the context set by the current heritage and planning legislation.

Good knowledge of the role of the historic environment within policy making and place-shaping would also be an advantage and you must be able to demonstrate a good awareness of the potential partners who can help make a positive contribution to the county's historic environment and its management.

Experience of computerised Historic Environment Records and GIS software would be beneficial.

A degree in heritage/architectural conservation, archaeology or a related subject along with at least one year of experience in local authority planning services is essential for the role. Membership of the IHBC is desirable.

You must have the ability to travel across the county in order to meet the needs of the service.
