Wanting to start your career in the most interesting and challenging part of the public sector? So why haven't you thought about local government?

Join Croydon Council, the largest local authority in London. Help us to deliver great services for our 400,000 residents and discover just how far your career could go.

Are you a recent graduate looking for your first professional role?

This is a new role designed to provide entry-level graduate opportunities in the Council. It’s a good opportunity to develop practical skills, gain experience across a wide range of council services and make a real difference to residents' experience. We’ve designed it with potential progression in mind.

You may not have known it, but local authorities are the most varied and challenging part of the public sector. Croydon alone spends over £1.5bn annually providing services to residents and the sector trains thousands of graduates each year in dozens of professional careers, like law, property, accountancy, procurement and IT to list just a few.

What We Are Looking For

We are not looking for previous complaints experience. However, it will help your application if you can demonstrate previous work experience – of any kind - and explain why that will enable you to make an immediate and positive impact and impression.

The right candidate with the right attitude and willingness to learn and apply themselves could find that succeeding in this role is just the start of their career.

You do not need previous complaints handling experience, but you will need to demonstrate the right attitude, for example by explaining what you learned from part-time roles you may have held. Above all, we are interested in your potential, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

In this role you will:

  • Help manage complaints received from residents.
  • Work with teams across the Council to resolve issues.
  • Monitor performance, analyse trends and prepare management information.
  • Gain exposure to senior managers and decision-making processes.

We are looking for graduates from any academic discipline who can demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail.
  • An analytical and inquisitive mindset.
  • Confidence working with information and data.
  • A genuine interest in public service.

In return, we offer:

  • A structured development opportunity.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme membership.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Opportunities to progress within London's largest local authority.

If you're ready to start your career by helping improve services for the residents of Croydon, we'd love to hear from you.
