The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cat B - Driver (taxi licenced preferred but not essential) to join our Integrated Transport Solutions team, we are responsible for School Transport and public Demand Response Transport services.

In this role, you will; under the direction of the Operations Lead Officer, undertake quality customer focused services that supports the work of the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU) and other front-line services provided by North Somerset Council (NSC). These would typically include operating fleet vehicles within a prearranged, structured schedule to convey passengers, or public focused front-line services.

We will require applicants to undertake training to become licenced taxi drivers. This would include a Taxi test with knowledge of the area, DBS enhanced certification, ability to pass a driver medical & driving assessment. All training and costs provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • to ensure daily work instructions are acknowledged and both planning and preparations for operational deployment are undertaken.
  • to effectively deliver front line services to customers in accordance with a journey plan, timetable and/or a transportation manifest, in a timely manner with a customer focused professional approach.
  • to report issues or client experiences at each engagement in line with agreed protocols and instructions on the schedule/plan, reporting any incidents and communicating any variances in accordance with council policy.
  • to use the ICT equipment/systems, ticket machines provided to allow quality monitoring to be undertaken of the services provided.
  • have a good standard of general education required to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills.
  • ability to take money or card payments
  • to position, collect and return council vehicles from multi point locations.
  • where appropriate, to support services in the upkeep and housekeeping and general maintenance of council assets, such as vehicles, public transport infrastructure and communal areas.
  • to undertake a daily vehicle, walk around check and report defects or damage
  • to report near miss or damage incurred in an accident
  • to maintain a current, valid driving licence (minimum of a Category B) and submit this routinely for review.
  • to maintain a valid taxi licence certificate in line with Integrated Transport Solutions

  • to maintain a valid enhanced DBS using the update service

This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office and depot will be closing in 2026. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-Super-Mare or within North Somerset.
