An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our forward‑thinking and highly motivated Development Management Team as a Financial Monitoring and Business Support Officer This is a key role within the service, where you will play a vital part in supporting the delivery of high‑quality planning and development management services that make a real difference to our communities.

As a valued member of our team, you will play an important role in supporting the Financial Monitoring and Engagement Officer in the management and delivery of Section 106 contributions across the borough. You will help ensure that development-related funding is monitored and administered in line with statutory requirements and local planning policies. This role also involves processing a range of financial transactions, including invoices and purchase orders, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the service.

Working closely with Town and Parish Councils, you will build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, providing guidance and support on a variety of enquiries. Through your work, you will contribute to delivering meaningful benefits for residents, communities and businesses across the borough.

The role is based in Telford, a vibrant and growing destination where people love to live, work, and enjoy life. Located in the heart of Shropshire, Telford is the gateway between the Midlands and Wales, offering a rich blend of heritage, natural beauty, and modern development. The borough boasts a thriving town centre and a stunning 450‑acre town park with extensive leisure facilities.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring a combination of administrative, financial and customer-focused skills, alongside a proactive and positive approach to service delivery. We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or an equivalent qualification).
  • Has experience of working with legislation, policies and procedures, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex information clearly and confidently through both written and verbal communication.
  • Possesses proven experience within a financial or administrative environment, including the preparation of reports and statistical information.
  • Has an understanding of the planning process and Section 106 contributions or is keen to develop knowledge in this area.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Is highly organised and able to manage competing priorities, ensuring statutory deadlines and service standards are consistently met.
  • Has strong IT skills and is confident using a range of systems and applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Office 365.
