Join Our Children and Families Service

We are growing and developing our Children and Families workforce as part of an ambitious programme of service transformation. We are looking for talented, committed and values-led professionals to join us.

The Role

Be the welcoming first point of contact that helps families find the support they need. As a Family Hub Connector, you will work front of house across our Best Start Family Hub network, building trusted relationships and helping parents and carers access advice, services, groups and activities.

You will support families from their earliest contact with the hubs, including assisting with new birth visits, completing registrations and following up at agreed milestones. Alongside providing clear information and signposting, you will deliver the administrative and operational support that keeps local services running smoothly, helping every contact make a positive difference for children and families.

About You

  • A good standard of education and extensive experience in a customer-focused setting, with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of providing administrative and operational support in a multidisciplinary environment, including the effective use of a range of IT systems.
  • Strong local knowledge, particularly of services for vulnerable children and families, and an understanding of the challenges families face and the impact of key life events.
  • An understanding of the legislative and policy framework for family support, including the Childcare Act 2006, alongside a commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to engage families from diverse backgrounds, work without judgement and build positive relationships with professionals and partners.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the initiative, resilience and attention to detail to manage competing priorities and provide reliable support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and register families, build trusted relationships and provide accurate information about Best Start, Healthy Babies and other local support services.
  • Assist with new birth visits and follow-up contact, helping parents understand the support available at each stage of their child’s life.
  • Respond to public and professional enquiries, identify emerging needs and undertake dynamic risk assessments and triage to help families access appropriate advice and support.
  • Provide administrative and operational support, maintain secure records and case management information, and help organise locality meetings, forums and resources.
  • Support programmes, publicity, parent networks and feedback processes, and issue household support vouchers and other financial support in line with agreed procedures.
  • Work with colleagues and partners to share information appropriately, follow safeguarding procedures and ensure families experience welcoming, accessible and coordinated services.

Why Join Us?

  • Use your customer service and organisational skills to help children and families access support early.
  • Build meaningful connections in local communities and make our Family Hubs welcoming places for everyone.
  • Develop your experience within Best Start Family Hubs, working alongside practitioners and partners to improve family outcomes.

What we offer

  • A salary of £27,274–£29,542 per annum.
  • 28 days’ annual leave rising to 33 days after five years’ continuous service, plus eight public/bank holidays.
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Opportunities for professional development, learning and management development.
