Experienced Occupational Therapist
1 x 22.2 hrs, Permanent Contract
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Smarter Care Occupational Therapy Team in our unique Family Carer OT role.
The Family Carer OT works with the unpaid carer to support them in their role, providing advice, demonstrating safe moving and handling techniques, providing equipment and making recommendations for adaptations where necessary.
This is a unique and dedicated role to support carers to avoid injury, provide dignity to the cared for and ensure sustained caring arrangements that suit the needs of both the carer and the cared for.
Experience of moving and handling would ensure a smooth transition into this role.
The Occupational Therapy Team at Telford & Wrekin Council delivers a broad range of services aimed at promoting independence and well-being. The team’s core responsibilities include the assessment, recommendation, provision, and review of equipment, minor works, and major adaptations, primarily through the Disabled Facilities Grant.
Additionally, the team operates a Smarter Care Service, which has two functions. One reviews existing care packages and recommends adjustments to ensure appropriate levels of support—whether through single-handed care or revised care durations. The other supports unpaid carers with their role, providing advice and equipment to support them to provide care safely and sustainably.
You will be joining a forward-thinking local authority that was proudly named Council of the Year 2025 and received a Good rating in the 2024 CQC Inspection of Adult Social Care. Our service is recognised for its innovation, including the introduction of Hybrid Practitioner and Family Carer Occupational Therapist roles, as well as the development of the Virtual House initiative.
