We’re excited to be recruiting an Employment and Volunteer Support Worker here in Barnsley, the place of possibilities.

We are a double award winning, high performing Council with a growing economy, a thriving town centre and some truly impressive outcomes in our communities. This is why we were awarded Council of the year 2023 by the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) and the Municipal Journal (MJ)

Our excellent Supported Employment and Volunteering Service has been a key part of our win, we’re so proud of what we have achieved not just for the council but for our partners and Barnsley.

We want every person with a learning barrier to achieve their full potential by having the opportunity to work or volunteer in the local area. We work with local employers and voluntary organisations to create opportunities that will achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for the people we support.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, committed individual to join our supportive team and help to provide the very best outcomes for vulnerable adults in Barnsley in line with the SEQF 5 stage model of Supported Employment

As an Employment and Volunteer Support Worker your function will be to provide job coaching in a workplace setting to enable candidates to become independent in their roles. You will ideally have experience of working with people with learning disabilities, difficulties or neurodiversity or with other vulnerable groups. You may also support people with job searching, cv writing or employability skills helping them identify suitable opportunities. You will work as part of a team to contribute to assessment and action planning as part of the candidates journey.

You will need a level 2 qualification.

You’ll be required to have an enhanced DBS check. If you live overseas or have lived overseas in the last five years, if you are the preferred candidate for the post, you will be required to apply for an overseas criminal records check from the country you have live in. If you experience difficulty in obtaining an overseas criminal record check, please emaildbs@barnsley.gov.uk.

Please make sure you view the job profile for this role, as you'll need to demonstrate how you meet the required criteria in your application form.

In certain circumstances, Pensions Regulations may reduce pension payments of those who return to work within local government service. If you're in receipt of a pension before starting your employment with Barnsley Council, this may affect your pension entitlements - please get in touch with the relevant Pensions Authority for advice.

We’re an award-winning team and one of the biggest employers in the borough supporting around 243,000 people. You’ll receive great pay, generous holiday entitlement, an excellent pension scheme and development opportunities. We’re a family friendly organisation and support employees to work flexibly and maintain a healthy work life balance. We encourage discussions around working hours and patterns. There’s so much happening in our thriving borough and your talent and skills will help us make Barnsley the place of possibilities.
