About the role
Crawley is a town with ambition. As the economic powerhouse of West Sussex and the Gatwick Diamond, it is home to more than 3,400 businesses and around 90,000 jobs. With excellent transport connections, a diverse business base and a strong track record of investment and growth, Crawley continues to play a vital role in the regional and national economy.
At Crawley Borough Council, we are delivering an exciting programme of regeneration and economic development activity that is transforming the town and creating opportunities for businesses, residents and visitors alike. From major public realm improvements and town centre regeneration projects to business support initiatives and inward investment activity, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future success of Crawley.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and highly motivated Economic Development Officer to join our Economic Development and Regeneration Team.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work with businesses, investors, developers, public sector partners and community stakeholders to support economic growth and deliver projects that make a tangible difference to the borough.
What you will be doing:
- support the development and delivery of economic development, regeneration and business support initiatives
- build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, partner organisations and key stakeholders
- help promote Crawley as a destination for investment, business growth and innovation
- coordinate and deliver projects from inception to completion, ensuring objectives, budgets and timescales are met
- research and analyse economic trends, policies and opportunities to inform decision-making and strategy
- represent us at meetings, events and networking opportunities, acting as an ambassador for Crawley
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about economic development and passionate about supporting growth and regeneration.
You will have:
- an understanding of economic development issues at local, regional and national level
- experience of developing productive partnerships and working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and partners
- the ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute positively as part of a collaborative team
- a commitment to excellence and to upholding our values and behaviours
This is an exciting time to join us. Our ambitious regeneration programme is helping to shape the future of the borough, and you will have the opportunity to play a key role in delivering real change for businesses and communities.
Based in our modern Town Hall in the heart of Crawley town centre, we offer a flexible hybrid working arrangement, typically combining home working with at least two days per week in the office. You'll also benefit from a supportive team environment, opportunities for professional development and the chance to work on high-profile projects that have a lasting impact on the borough.
Additional information
The post holder will be required to attend occasional evening meetings.
Employee benefits
We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.
At Crawley Borough Council, you will have access to a structured programme of learning from day one, designed to help you succeed in your role and grow your career.
Local government reorganisation
Local government reorganisation (LGR) is planned across Sussex, with new unitary authorities expected by 2028. While this represents a significant change for councils, most roles will continue to focus on delivering vital services to our residents and business communities. As the future structure evolves, our name may change, but our commitment to providing excellent services and supporting our employees will not. Joining us now means being part of a dedicated team during an important and evolving time for local government.
Our way of working
Our shared values and behaviours reflect the special nature of our council. We encourage all colleagues to put them into practice, whatever job they do. Take a look to see if we are the perfect match.
Safer recruitment
Crawley Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
