Job Title: Driver Support Worker
Starting Salary: £24,404 (£12.64 per hour) progressing to £24,790 (£12.94 per hour) per annum (pro rata for part time) – pay award pending
Hours: 25 and 37 hours per week available

About the team

We are looking for individuals who will offer care and support to adults with a variety of abilities transporting them to and from their homes to day services in a safe and proper manner.

About the role

You will be in possession of a valid UK Driving License with a category D1 entitlement (This enables you to drive larger vehicles and no longer forms part of a standard driving licence, D1 will be present on driving licences pre 1997 or if you have completed an additional driving test specifically for the D1 entitlement).

You will be required to ensure the vehicle is road worthy and carry out daily and weekly checks on the vehicle. You may be required to join in activities with people we support and assist with an individual’s personal care needs where necessary.

You will be required to complete manual handling tasks for people we support in wheelchairs on and off the vehicle and the role will involve a degree of bending, crouching and kneeling. Candidates should have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job role.

Driver Support Worker:

  • Support people with and without mobility equipment in and out of vehicles, which may include the use of tail-lifts and ramps.
  • Support people to access or take part in a range of activities on or off site.
  • Provide emotional and physical support, which may include supporting with personal care tasks.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and roadworthy.
  • You will support people with personal care needs which includes

    supporting individuals in the bathroom and toilet, using mobility aids and supporting with their food and drink, which may include specific dietary requirements. Training will be provided

Driver only:

  • Support people with and without mobility equipment in and out of vehicles, which may include the use of tail-lifts and ramps.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and roadworthy.

About you

Essential:

  • A category D1 entitlement on driving licence. (Please check before applying for the position)
  • Previous driving experience, which may include driving larger vehicles and working as part of a team
  • Be able to demonstrate how your work puts the person at the centre of your practice and promotes a commitment to Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Driving required
