Contracting, Procurement and Commercial Manager
Job Description
Discover yourself in Lewisham where what you do makes a difference to our vibrant and culturally diverse communities!
We have a rich history of welcoming people from all over the world and are proud to be recognised as the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, for our work in championing the rights of refugees and migrants.
Introduction
Lewisham is transforming how we procure, manage and deliver housing services – and we’re looking for a senior commercial leader to help lead that change. As our Contracting, Procurement and Commercial Manager, you’ll sit at the heart of our repairs and maintenance team, ensuring our contracts deliver quality homes, value for money and real social value for residents.
This is not a back‑office role. It’s about influence, grip and outcomes – working with senior leaders, suppliers and communities to make sure every pound spent delivers what it should.
What’s the role? ……
Leads the procurement and commercial management of housing repairs and maintenance contracts to ensure quality, value for money and compliance.
Provides strategic contract oversight, strengthening governance, financial control and performance across a diverse supply chain.
Works collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to manage risk, drive social value and improve outcomes for residents.
Plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering effective, transparent contracting arrangements across Housing Repairs Services.
What’s in it for you?
Excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:
- Generous holiday allowance
- Local Government Pension scheme
- Flexible working and family friendly policies
- Season ticket and bicycle loans
- A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships
- Supportive staff networks
What we’re looking for
Someone who can bring the following;
- Is a confident, commercially minded leader who enjoys working at the heart of complex, high‑value services and isn’t afraid to challenge poor practice.
- Brings strong judgement and grip, with the ability to balance risk, cost, quality and resident outcomes in a pressured operational environment.
- Is collaborative by nature, able to influence senior colleagues, contractors and partners while setting clear expectations and standards.
- Cares about more than compliance alone – someone motivated by improving services, delivering social value and making public money work harder for communities.
- Thrives on turning complexity into clarity, with a practical, hands‑on approach to governance, performance and financial control.
Location
The job is primarily based in Laurence House, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.
