Did you know there are over 61,000 unpaid carers supporting adults in Leicestershire—many of whom do not identify as carers or receive any formal support?

Are you passionate about making a real difference for carers across Leicestershire?
Do you want to be part of an ambitious and growing service?

Leicestershire County Council is expanding its support for carers, and we’re excited to offer five Trainee Community Support Worker positions within our dedicated Carers Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us at a pivotal moment as we strengthen our offer of advice, guidance, and meaningful support for unpaid carers across the county.

We’re looking for people who share our commitment to championing carers’ rights, amplifying their voices, and ensuring they receive the recognition and support they deserve.
If you’re motivated, compassionate, and eager to learn, this could be the perfect role for you.

About the Role

As a Trainee Community Support Worker, you’ll play a vital part in an evolving, forward-thinking service. You’ll work directly with carers, helping them to access the right support at the right time by completing Carers Assessments under the Care Act 2014, and carrying out reviews to make sure the support continues to meet their needs and genuinely benefits them. You will work with Carers to devise a plan and establish what support is required, whether this is information and advice, referring onto other services or by completing a person-centred support plan to meet their needs and outcomes.

This is your chance to develop new skills, contribute to meaningful change, and help shape a service that truly values and empowers unpaid carers.

Where necessary, you will identify and report potential safeguarding, consider mental capacity, and other high-risk situations where a person’s safety or liberty may be at risk. Your team will have an office base and can work in a hybrid way. You will undertake visits to people in their own homes or wherever the person feels most comfortable to meet you.

We are passionate about developing your career in social care.

As a Grade 8 Trainee Community Support Worker you will be in your first CSW role and will be expected to develop experience, knowledge and skills, complete their Learning and Induction Programme and undertake your duties with support and supervision.

As a Grade 9 Community Support Worker you will be expected to have sufficient experience, knowledge and skills to manage your workload under supervision, to deliver a high quality, person centred, accountable statutory social care. This includes demonstrating competency undertaking Care and Support Assessments, Mental Capacity Assessments and making Best Interest decisions.

As a Community Support Worker, there are further opportunities to develop your career in Adult Social Care at Leicestershire County Council, such as the opportunity to apply to undertake a Social Work Apprenticeship, Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship and routes in leadership roles.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

You will require a valid full driving licence or access to a vehicle for this position.

For information on our approach to the recruitment of ex-offenders, please see our policy statement.

About You

To apply for the CSW post, you must:

  • Hold a Level 2 in Maths and English
  • Have relevant experience of working with adults in a social care setting and of working with other agencies within a fieldwork environment.
  • Understand the need to undertake need and risk assessments and the issues/needs that adults and their families/carers may have.
  • Have a good understanding of social care organisations and their roles and responsibilities as part of the wider community and voluntary sector.
  • Be a confident communicator who is skilled in negotiation, persuasion, assertiveness, and conflict management, and able to build effective working relationships.
  • Be able to recognise the limits of own accountability and responsibility, and to seek appropriate support and advice when required.
  • Be able to manage a caseload and work to clear objectives.

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and to delivering accessible and inclusive services which meet the needs of all of our residents. You will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of these commitments as part of the selection process.

Reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability. We are a Disability Confident Employer.
