Job Description

Overview

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Community Support Officer (Resettlement) to join the Strategy and Partnerships division within Resources & Innovation. This rewarding role will play a key part in supporting refugee families arriving through the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP), Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) and Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP). Working closely with the Resettlement Programme Lead, you will help newly arrived individuals and families settle successfully into their new homes, access essential services and become active members of the local community.

The successful candidate will provide end-to-end case management and tailored support to households throughout their resettlement journey. Acting as a key point of contact, you will work closely with council services, housing providers, government agencies, health services, education providers and voluntary sector organisations to develop and deliver personalised support plans. From welcoming families on arrival and helping them access housing, healthcare and education, to supporting employment opportunities and long-term independence, you will play a vital role in helping people rebuild their lives and achieve sustainable integration.

This is a varied and highly collaborative position that requires compassion, resilience and excellent partnership-working skills. You will support vulnerable individuals and families, manage complex cases, coordinate multi-agency interventions and contribute to the successful delivery of the Council’s resettlement programmes. The role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people's lives while helping to build stronger and more inclusive communities across Harrow.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting vulnerable individuals or families within a customer-focused environment
  • Proven experience of end-to-end case management and delivering tailored support plans
  • Good knowledge of housing, welfare benefits, immigration or resettlement-related services
  • Experience working effectively with multi-agency partners, including statutory, voluntary and community organisations
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive situations with empathy, professionalism and sound judgement
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and maintain accurate records
  • A proactive and resilient approach, with a strong commitment to helping individuals achieve independence and successful integration into the community
  • Working knowledge of Dari and Pushto languages would be highly desirable, with Arabic language skills welcomed as an additional advantage
