About this opportunity
Are you passionate about improving local infrastructure and delivering services that make a real difference to communities? Cumberland Council is looking for a Highways Network Officer to join our Highways Service, supporting the design, delivery and management of highway improvement and maintenance projects across the county. In this varied role, you'll undertake surveys, prepare specifications, supervise works on highways, footways and cycleways, support winter maintenance operations, and provide technical advice to colleagues, contractors and stakeholders. You'll also play an important part in project planning, asset management and ensuring works are delivered safely on time and within budget.
This role is available on a permanent basis.
Who we’re looking for
We're looking for someone with a relevant degree or NVQ Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience), strong technical knowledge of highways maintenance and design, and experience managing projects and working with customers, contractors and elected members.
Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities. In return, you'll join a supportive and forward-thinking council where your work has a visible impact on local communities.
We offer opportunities for professional development, varied and rewarding projects, and the chance to work with experienced colleagues who are committed to delivering a safe and reliable highway network for Cumberland.
We’re looking for individuals who embody our organisation's core values: ambitious, collaborative, compassionate, empowering, and innovative.
We believe in the power of these values to drive positive change, deliver excellent public services and shape a better future for our communities.
We’re also about potential over perfection and we can help you grow in the role and thrive in your career.
