
Civil Enforcement Officer
This is a varied role with a mix of patrol, community engagement and enforcement activity to ensure our roads, communities and public spaces are safe, accessible and well-managed. Working across Ashford and Tenterden, you will enforce parking regulations, support traffic management objectives, assist with road safety initiatives and provide a visible presence within the community.

As a Civil Enforcement Officer, you will patrol on foot, by council vehicle and using electric bicycles to ensure compliance with parking regulations across both on-street locations and council car parks.
You will play a key role in supporting the Council's traffic management strategy, helping to maintain safe and accessible roads, reducing inappropriate parking and contributing to wider community safety initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
Enforcing on-street and off-street parking regulations
Issuing Penalty Charge Notices where contraventions occur
Providing assistance and reassurance to residents and visitors
Supporting the enforcement of the Blue Badge Scheme and helping tackle fraud and misuse
Monitoring and reporting parking equipment faults, highway issues and maintenance concerns
Managing access to controlled pedestrianised areas
Assisting with abandoned vehicle investigations
Attending Traffic Penalty Tribunal hearings and providing evidence when required
Supporting road safety, anti-idling and environmental initiatives
Reporting suspicious activity and assisting in crime reduction activities
Maintaining accurate records using handheld digital equipment

What We're Looking For
We're seeking individuals who can remain professional, calm and resilient when dealing with members of the public, including in challenging situations. You will need to be self-motivated, able to work independently and have excellent attention to detail.
It is essential that you have clear and accurate written communication skills and experience of dealing with members of the public and are able to work with minimal supervision, as well as having:
A full, current and clean Category B driving licence
Willingness to undertake all required training, including electric bicycle safety training
Ability to work a flexible shift pattern, including weekends and Bank Holidays
Successful candidates will be supported to obtain and maintain professional qualifications and training relevant to the role, including:
City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Conflict Management in Parking Enforcement
City & Guilds Level 2 Roles and Responsibilities of Civil Enforcement Officers
Ongoing refresher training and development
Training in the use of specialist enforcement equipment and technology
The successful applicant will be required to maintain a satisfactory DBS Standard Disclosure. The post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
