Our Culture and Values

We like our staff to be proactive and innovative. Being customer‑focused and willing to maximise your potential at work are expected. We all work together to achieve the very best for our residents, which sometimes means getting involved in projects and trying new tasks outside of your day‑to‑day job role. We welcome new ideas and enthusiasm for trying new experiences.

The Job Role

As Civic Chauffeur, you will be responsible for transporting the Chairman and Civic party to official engagements, ensuring timely arrivals through effective route planning and providing courteous support throughout events. You will also assist with the care and security of the Chains of Office, maintain the Civic vehicle to a high standard, and support the Civic Officer in hosting events.

The role also includes administrative tasks, photography for Civic records, and occasionally deputising for the Civic Officer. This is a key role in representing the Council at public functions and supporting the smooth delivery of Civic events.

About You

This role involves long and unsociable hours, and the workload can fluctuate significantly due to the nature of Civic engagements. The successful candidate must therefore be highly flexible, with the ability to work variable shifts — including evenings and weekends — sometimes at short notice.

You must hold a full, clean driving licence and be confident in planning routes and driving to a high standard. While previous chauffeuring experience is desirable, full training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is positive, hardworking, and reliable, with a professional and courteous manner. You should be comfortable working independently, take pride in your appearance and conduct, and be willing to support the wider Democratic Services team when needed.

A basic DBS check is required for this post.
