Ceremonies Officer - Certificates and Reception

Job description

Join East Riding Registration Service

Are you passionate about delivering outstanding customer service and take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work? We are looking for a professional and customer-focused Ceremonies Officer to play a key role in supporting the Registration Service through certificate production, reception duties, administrative support and, on occasion, the delivery of ceremonies.

This rewarding and varied role combines meticulous attention to detail with compassionate customer care, helping residents access vital registration services and marking some of the most important moments in their lives.

About the Role

As a Ceremonies Officer, you will be one of the first points of contact for customers visiting, telephoning or contacting the Registration Service online. You will provide a warm, welcoming and professional service, coordinating and booking appointments for various registration types (including births and deaths), while assisting customers with enquiries, payments and certificate applications, ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to excellent customer care.

A substantial part of the role involves the production and issue of birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates. Working with both historic and contemporary records, you will ensure certificates, corrections and other registration processes are completed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with legislative requirements and General Register Office guidance.

You will also play an important role in maintaining the integrity of official records by helping to identify potential fraudulent activity and recognising safeguarding concerns, approaching sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion and empathy.

Working within a busy and supportive team, you will contribute to the smooth running of the service through a wide range of administrative responsibilities, including processing applications, maintaining records, handling financial transactions and responding to customer enquiries. No two days are the same, and from time to time you may also have the opportunity to support or conduct ceremonies, helping create memorable experiences for couples and families.

This is a role where accuracy, customer service and attention to detail are equally important, offering the opportunity to make a real difference to residents at key moments throughout their lives.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working in a customer-facing environment.
  • Has experience of administrative work and maintaining accurate records.
  • Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Can communicate confidently and professionally with a wide range of customers, showing empathy when appropriate.
  • Can effectively manage their workload and perform well in a busy environment.
  • Works well as part of a team and has strong problem-solving skills.
  • Is comfortable using Microsoft Office and other IT systems.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to residents by supporting them with some of life's most important events. You'll join a friendly and supportive team where accuracy, professionalism and excellent customer service are highly valued.

Every certificate you produce and every customer you assist helps ensure that vital registration services are delivered efficiently, professionally and with care.
