
Casual Health and Fitness Assistant

Join us as a Health & Fitness Assistant and play a vital role in promoting health and wellbeing across our community. You’ll help members achieve their fitness goals by delivering safe, professional, and engaging fitness programmes, while maintaining welcoming and well-kept facilities. Your work supports Lancaster City Council’s commitment to safeguarding, equal opportunities, and a healthier, more active community.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll engage with members through outreach, events, and social media, creating a friendly and motivating atmosphere. Delivering fitness classes and small group sessions, you’ll ensure safety and professionalism at all times. You’ll also handle membership sales, conduct inductions and assessments, maintain equipment, and support the smooth running of the health and fitness service through administrative tasks.
You’ll Fit Right In If…
You hold a Gym Instructor Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) and have experience working on a busy gym floor. You’re passionate about safe exercise, have excellent communication skills, and enjoy building positive relationships. Being friendly, reliable, and flexible to work evenings and weekends will help you thrive here. You’ll share our values of Working Together, Ambition, Pride, and Ownership, contributing to a supportive and inclusive team. Please note, this role requires an enhanced DBS check.

Local Government Reorganisation
The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.
If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancaster City Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.

Salary range
- £26,016 - £27,274 per year
