About this Role

Lighthouse Futures Trust is an SPI (Specialist Post-16 Institution) and a registered charity that was established in 2018. Our focus is on supporting young adults, aged 16- 25, to gain the social and employability skills they need to find and sustain paid employment. Our purpose is to prepare them to be independent in life and develop skills that enable them to enter the world of work. We do this by offering bespoke pathways that empower them to build confidence, skills and knowledge – and ultimately, to thrive.

Our principle programmes are:

Pre-internship: this lasts for 1 to 2 years and is primarily based on our college site but includes regular trips and business visits.

Supported internship: this lasts for 10 months and includes 3 to 4 days a week on site with a major local employer

Branching Out: this is a practical programme that lasts for 10 months which focuses on gardening/landscaping and other hands on roles.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Careers Lead to lead and deliver our careers provision for young people aged 16–25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a high-quality, inclusive and ambitious careers programme that helps our learners recognise their strengths, explore their options and successfully progress towards employment, supported internships, apprenticeships, further learning, greater independence and positive adult destinations.

Working closely with learners, families, college staff, employers and external partners, you will:

  • Lead and develop our whole-college careers strategy and programme.
  • Provide accessible, impartial and person-centred careers guidance to individual learners.
  • Support careers, employability and Preparation for Adulthood to be embedded throughout learners' programmes.
  • Contribute to EHCP annual reviews and transition planning.
  • Develop strong relationships with employers, education and training providers and community organisations.
  • Coordinate employer encounters, workplace visits, careers events and other meaningful careers activities.
  • Track learner progression and destinations and use this information to continually improve our careers provision.
  • Support colleagues to provide consistent, ambitious careers information and guidance

About you

You will be passionate about raising aspirations and improving opportunities for young people with SEND. You will have experience of delivering careers guidance or careers education and be confident working collaboratively with learners, families, colleagues and external partners

You will need a Level 6 qualification in Career Guidance and Development, or another recognised qualification that enables you to deliver personal careers guidance at the required professional level, together with a good understanding of impartial careers guidance, SEND, Preparation for Adulthood and progression routes into employment, education and training.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is ambitious for our learners, warm and approachable, highly organised and proactive, with the ability to build strong relationships and turn aspirations into realistic and meaningful opportunities.
