Westborough High School is a caring, vibrant and happy learning community. We value all our staff and work together to make a difference to children’s lives.

We are looking for an exceptionally organised, efficient and confident individual to join our busy Administration Team as a Business Support Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, responsibility and being at the centre of a busy organisation. You will join a supportive team and have the opportunity to make a genuine contribution to the smooth day-to-day running of our school.

This is a varied and fast-paced role at the heart of the school. No two days will be the same. You will work closely with senior leaders, teaching and support staff, playing a key part in ensuring that the school runs smoothly and effectively each day.

A key part of your role: Cover Management

You will take a lead role in the day-to-day coordination of staff cover, helping to ensure continuity of learning for our pupils. This will include (please refer to the job profile for full details) amongst other things:

  • Assisting with the accurate daily recording of staff absence
  • Coordinating and organising daily lesson cover for planned and unplanned teaching staff absence, working closely with the cover team, external supply agencies, senior and middle leaders
  • Planning ahead for known absences and school events, ensuring cover is organised effectively and cost-efficiently
  • Act as the primary contact for external agencies, securing high-quality supply staff whilst managing bookings effectively to ensure supply cover expenditure remains within an allocated budget
  • Liaising with staff and team leaders to ensure appropriate work is available for classes
  • Responding quickly and confidently to last-minute changes and resolving issues as they arise

High-quality business and administrative support

Alongside cover management, you will provide professional and efficient support to the wider school, including but not limited to:

  • Accurate data input, collation, analysis and production of management information
  • Maintaining clear, accurate and up-to-date records
  • Producing high-quality letters, reports, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and displays in line with the school’s house style
  • Supporting a range of administrative and operational activities across the school
  • Undertaking first aid training as required

Following the Section 8 Ofsted inspection in June 2026, Westborough achieved the green expected judgement in every category. Inspectors were highly complimentary about the quality of education provided at Westborough, recognising that ‘pupils are supported well to achieve.’ The inspectors praised the professional learning provided to staff and commented ‘staff value this support and recognise how this shapes their practice,’ ‘staff are proud to work at the school.’ ‘They feel supported by leaders who take workload and wellbeing into consideration’.

As a valued member of our team we can offer:

  • Clear and shared values and expectations
  • A commitment to tailored professional development
  • A stimulating work environment
  • An experienced, highly committed and support leadership team

If you are someone who is approachable, highly organised, resourceful and dependable, able to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines in a demanding environment, we would be delighted to receive your application.

You are warmly welcomed to visit our school to meet other staff and to see for yourself what a great place Westborough is to work.

The closing date for applications to be returned is 9.00 a.m. on Monday 16 November 2026 and completed applications should be returned to Fiona Sharp, PA to the Headteacher at the school or via email fsharp@w-h-s.org.uk (CVs will not be accepted.)

Based on the quality and quantity of applications received, Westborough High School reserves the right to interview sooner than the specified dates above. Applicants will be notified of this where possible. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.
