An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Invest East Yorkshire Business Support Team as a Business Adviser. We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic, proactive and experienced advisers to join our established team, working alongside fellow Business Advisers, Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and Administrators.

The Business Support Team plays a vital role in supporting individuals and businesses across the East Riding of Yorkshire, helping new businesses start up and supporting existing businesses to develop, innovate and grow. Through direct delivery and partnership working with Hull City Council and the Hull and East Yorkshire Growth Hub, we provide a comprehensive and coordinated business support service designed to strengthen the local economy.

Our services aim to:

• Stimulate sustainable business growth, productivity and innovation.
• Support the creation of new businesses and employment opportunities.
• Promote networking, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the business community.
• Research and communicate current business intelligence and opportunities.
• Facilitate access to funding, grants and business support programmes.
• Encourage investment and business resilience.

The Role

As part of a team of nine Business Advisers, you will work directly with entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses, providing impartial one-to-one advice and guidance to help them achieve their ambitions.

You will engage with businesses to understand their current position, opportunities, challenges and barriers to growth, undertaking business diagnostics and developing tailored action plans. You will support clients through advice, mentoring, signposting, brokerage and referrals to specialist support services where appropriate.

The role will also involve delivering workshops, presenting to groups of business owners and entrepreneurs, promoting business support programmes and developing strong relationships with local businesses and partner organisations.

The role will be based at one of the council run business centres across the East Riding which will be agreed with the successful applicants.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality one-to-one business advice and support to start-up and existing businesses.
• Conduct business diagnostics to identify barriers to growth, opportunities, challenges and growth potential.
• Develop tailored action plans and provide ongoing support to businesses.
• Support businesses to access grant funding, finance and specialist support programmes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with businesses, stakeholders and delivery partners.
• Deliver workshops, presentations and business engagement events.
• Promote the Invest East Yorkshire business support offer and associated programmes.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute towards programme outputs and service objectives.
• Support businesses to improve resilience, productivity, innovation and sustainable growth.

About You

We are seeking individuals with a passion for supporting businesses and making a positive impact on the local economy.

You will have:

• Run your own business/operated at director level or will have experience of providing business support, advice, coaching or consultancy to businesses.
• Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
• Experience of working within, or delivering, government-funded business support programmes.
• A good understanding of the current business support landscape and the challenges facing businesses.
• Knowledge of business development, business planning, financial management, marketing and growth strategies.
• The ability to analyse business needs and identify practical solutions.
• Experience of managing projects and achieving programme outcomes.
• The ability to make informed decisions that support service and organisational objectives.
• A proactive, flexible and solutions-focused approach.
