Assistant Operations Officer (East)

Are you organised, customer-focused and confident working with information? We are looking for an Assistant Operations Officer to help deliver reliable waste collection and street cleansing services across Elmbridge and Mole Valley. This is a varied role where you will support residents, maintain accurate operational data and contribute to service improvements that make a visible difference to local communities.

About the role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager (East), you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of the waste collection and street cleansing contract. You will be a key point of contact for both residents and colleagues in the customer services team, responding to enquiries, providing practical advice on waste and recycling, and helping households find ways to reduce waste and recycle more. You will also provide essential administrative support, maintain accurate operational data to help monitor service performance, and contribute to projects that improve local services. Through your work, you will help protect the environment and support a cleaner, safer and more attractive place for people to live and feel proud of.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Responding to telephone and written enquiries from residents, recording details and providing helpful, accurate information.
  • Understanding household needs and offering practical advice on waste reduction and recycling.
  • Providing administrative support to the Operations team to help ensure the smooth running of the service.
  • Uploading, checking and reviewing operational data to support accurate performance monitoring.
  • Identifying errors and resolving discrepancies to maintain reliable records and reports.
  • Supporting projects and initiatives to improve waste collection, recycling and street cleansing services.
  • Working flexibly and collaboratively with colleagues across teams in a fast-paced environment.

About you:

You will be educated to A-Level standard or equivalent or be able to demonstrate comparable ability. Ideally, you will have experience of working in an office environment, providing administrative support and delivering a high standard of customer care. An interest in environmental issues would be an advantage.

You will also bring:

  • Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills.
  • A professional and approachable manner when dealing with residents, colleagues and council members.
  • A methodical approach to gathering, recording and reporting information.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify errors and maintain accurate records.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • An ability to learn and navigate internal reporting and CRM systems.
  • The ability to follow guidance, work collaboratively towards team objectives and manage competing priorities.

Working arrangements:

The role will be based across Elmbridge and Mole Valley, with occasional travel to Surrey Heath and Woking. As our services and ways of working evolve, you’ll need to be flexible and willing to work across different functions and teams. In return, we offer flexible working arrangements, including working from home where appropriate to the role, to help you maintain a good work-life balance. For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Aghogho Ateh on 07785 404410 or email aghogho.ateh@jointwastesolutions.org. Closing date: 15 November 2026 at 23:59
