    We’re looking for an inspiring leader to drive our vision for Living and Ageing Well services. As Assistant Director, you’ll play a critical role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care and safeguarding for adults across Havering.     About the Role

    As Assistant Director – Living and Ageing Well, you’ll provide strategic leadership for a wide range of adult social care services, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and promoting independence and wellbeing. You’ll work closely with partners across health, housing, and the voluntary sector to deliver innovative solutions and integrated care models.

    Reporting to the Directors of Living Well and Ageing Well, you’ll be a key member of the senior leadership team, managing a £60m budget and leading a workforce of over 130 staff. Your focus will be on safeguarding, quality assurance, commissioning, and driving continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic leadership for adult social care services, ensuring alignment with council priorities and statutory requirements
    • Act as principal adviser on Adult Social Care, overseeing safeguarding and quality standards
    • Drive transformation and innovation in service delivery, embedding early intervention and prevention
    • Manage complex budgets and resources, ensuring value for money and sustainability
    • Build strong partnerships with health, housing, and voluntary sector organisations
    • Champion inclusion, professional excellence, and continuous improvement across all areas

    What You’ll Bring

    • Qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England
    • Substantial senior leadership experience in Adult Social Care
    • In-depth knowledge of legislation, policy, and best practice in social care and safeguarding
    • Proven ability to manage large-scale services and multi-million-pound budgets
    • Strong strategic thinking, influencing, and partnership-building skills
