Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting an Assistant Coroner’s Officer to join our Regulatory Services team at Milton Keynes City Council. In this rewarding role, you’ll support the Coroner’s Service in carrying out enquiries into deaths, helping ensure the right decisions are made and that families are treated with care and respect throughout the process.

Our Coroner’s Service plays an important part in supporting our communities at some of the most difficult times. You’ll help keep investigations running smoothly, work closely with partners, and provide clear, compassionate communication to bereaved families.

We’re a large, well-organised council delivering over 200 vital services to residents, working alongside partners across the city to make Milton Keynes a better place to live.


Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Interviews for this role will be held on 14th July 2026

Role Responsibilities
  • Assist Coroner’s Officers to carry out enquiries and support investigations, including inquests
  • Keep families informed about the progress of enquiries and provide signposting to support
  • Support the identification of the deceased in line with legislation and procedures
  • Record, investigate and assess reports relating to potential treasure
  • Prepare court documentation, including summonses and pre-inquest paperwork
  • Help ensure the smooth running of court proceedings and attendance of relevant parties
Ideal Candidate
  • Has a full UK driving licence and can work across different locations
  • Has strong administrative and IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Can work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Communicates clearly and sensitively, both in writing and verbally
  • Shows empathy and emotional resilience when supporting bereaved families
  • Uses good judgement and can remain calm under pressure in challenging situations

Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
