The Observatory School is a thriving and successful special school for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Assistant Cook to join our catering team and play a key role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our pupils.

This is a varied and rewarding role, working alongside our catering staff to prepare and serve fresh, nutritious meals for pupils and staff across our two school sites, the Vyner & Leasowe Campuses.

You'll support all aspects of kitchen operations, from food preparation and service to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety and hygiene.

No two days are the same. You will be part of a team that takes pride in creating a positive dining experience and ensuring that every pupil has access to a healthy meal in a welcoming environment. As the role involves working across both campuses, a full UK driving licence is essential.

Working closely with the Cook, you will also be expected to step up and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen in their absence, ensuring meals continue to be prepared and served safely, efficiently and to the high standards expected across the school.

We're looking for someone who is hardworking, flexible and enjoys working as part of a team. Previous catering experience would be an advantage, but most importantly we want someone who shares our commitment to supporting young people and contributing positively to our school community.

In return, you'll join a friendly and supportive team where every member of staff is valued and where your contribution has a direct impact on the daily experience of our pupils.

The Observatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be subject to enhanced DBS checks and satisfactory references.
