We have an excellent opportunity for a Finance Liaison Officer Apprentice to join our Adult Social Care Finance team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-Time, 24-Month Fixed-Term Contract.

As Finance Liaison Officer Apprentice, you will act as a key point of contact for internal customers seeking support with financial processes and systems. Working in partnership with the Senior Management Accountant and collaborating across multiple teams within the Local Authority, you will ensure seamless delivery of excellent customer service while developing your expertise in finance administration and support functions.

You'll work efficiently in partnership with Finance colleagues, specialists, and departments—including Management Accounting teams and Business Partners—navigating complex financial frameworks to deliver accurate and timely support. This includes making routine decisions with growing confidence and professionalism while participating in solution-based actions that encourage quality, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement. You'll also assist in designing and developing tools and guidance to enable self-service and widen the team's knowledge base.

The successful candidate will undertake the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship delivered by TEND, the duration of the course is 21 months. The apprenticeship will lead to a qualification in Business Administration.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a collaborative, motivated professional with experience in customer-facing environments, strong IT and numeracy skills, and the ability to work empathetically with people at all levels within and outside the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the understanding of customer needs and enabling a speedier, simpler, more responsive customer journey contributing to the continuous improvement in the delivery of the Council’s outcomes and ensuring high levels of internal customer satisfaction.
  • Manage customer issues effectively and understand when to consult with others, including specialists.
  • Personally own the resolution of some complex cases.
  • Assist with the design and development of tools and guidance notes for the areas of specialism to enable the team to self-serve and widen their knowledge.

Candidate Requirements

  • Good standard of education, including excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Good IT skills including office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Experience within a customer-focused service providing excellent customer service especially in a Finance environment.
