We have an exciting opportunity available for an Active Travel Officer (Cycle Training/Schools) to join the My Journey team in a permanent, part-time role supporting the programme objectives to fulfil the borough’s needs for cycle training with all ages, in schools and communities, including management of our Bikeability cycle training programme.

A key part of the role involves contract management of a recognised Bikeability company to outsource Bikeability training in Wokingham Borough schools, including monitoring and analysis/input of some data and procuring when necessary. Overseeing the Bikeability grant funded work involves applying and receiving the grant and managing the delivery and quality of the Bikeability contract with the supplier, including liaison with the Bikeability Trust.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Assisting schools in achieving the national Modeshift accreditation with organising, promoting, supporting and delivering cycle training and related activities such as leading bike rides and organising/delivering safer cycling talks and workshops eg Dr Bike in schools and bike maintenance in the community, all enabling children and adults to gain skills and confidence to travel more sustainably and safely.
  • Leading weekly Balance Bike Clubs (age 2-4 years) and Learn to Ride sessions (age 5–10 years).
  • Supporting the My Journey team at events (including programme monitoring) to promote cycling and active travel and the wider benefits of sustainable travel on climate change, air quality and health and well-being with internal and external partnership working.

The My Journey team are based at Shute End offices where we have storage for resources but most of the role will be either working from home or out in schools and/or the community. You will be required to work 3-4 days a week though some flexibility is required with evening and weekend work at activities/events.
