Position: Advanced Practitioner (Adults Learning Disabilities)
We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Advanced Social Work Practitioner to join the Specialist Care Team in Barnsley. The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of Mental Capacity Act legislation as well as sound understanding in Human Rights and the Care Act. You will have strong social work values that lead your practice in helping people to achieve the best outcomes possible. Alongside this you will play a significant role in supporting social workers to develop outstanding assessment and analytical skills; apply strengths-based interactions within direct work to develop confidence and skills to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for the future.
Advanced Practitioners will have an advanced knowledge of legislation, are able to demonstrate a breadth of support techniques to improve and develop social workers and other professional’s practice. You will have a deep understanding of upholding rights and leading on strengths-based practice when dealing with difficult situations that can involve various legal frameworks such as the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and the Human Rights Act.
We are interested in applicants who ideally have experience of, and a passion to work with adults and are committed to providing a person centred and strengths-based approach to their work.
Within the Specialist Care Team, we work with individuals living within a variety of settings to maximise their independence and life opportunities. This role will require management of a complex case load Whilst also providing crucial supervision and management support. The successful applicant will work closely with the advanced practitioner and team manager within the team in order to develop practice and lead the team through service priorities and changes.

Your role in our journey
As an Advanced Practitioner in our Adults’ Learning Disabilities Services you will have an advanced knowledge of safeguarding policy which upholds rights and expertise in case law that affects different areas of practice. You will develop creative and imaginative solutions to help people achieve positive outcomes which enable people to maintain their independence and live a happier healthier life. What you’ll need
To join us, you’ll need to have a recognized social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. You’ll have comprehensive experience of people with Learning disabilities and have achieved additional qualifications such as P.E / Best Interest Assessor to the role. You will have experience in supervising and supporting social workers and students in developing practice. You will be expected to produce high quality assessments, collaborating with various agencies, and interpreting case law and legislation. In Depth Knowledge of the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act, local and national policy issues, equal opportunity and anti-oppressive practice are vital. We’ll expect you to be a skilled communicator and a flexible, creative practitioner; determined to make the most of this unique opportunity. As an advanced practitioner we will expect you to have exceptional leadership skills with experience of working with a team to change and develop their practice. Candidates will be expected to evidence and outline the above expectation within their application form.
