We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and skilled Social &amp; Digital Media Officer to join our service. This is a fantastic position for someone who wants to make a real difference in the community and support our small and micro businesses thrive and prosper.
You will need to possess bundles of energy, full of initiative and flair whilst also being an expert organiser and an understanding on how to influence and positively engage people both live in person and remotely.
You will be responsible for producing impressive visually engaging content across all our social &amp; digital media platforms, reviewing feedback and follower statistics to discover fresh and innovative ways to deliver a best in class brand management service and deliver the recommendations set out in the Markets , Shop Fronts &amp; Street Trading Strategy 2024/2029.
You will be responsible for:
- Producing scheduled and live material for our current social media platforms, as well as exploring new avenues and methods to establish connections with viewers.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest social media trends and digital technologies
- Developing monthly reports on emerging social media trends that will be submitted to the management and executive teams
- Developing social media strategies with the aim of increasing brand awareness and customer engagement and growing both online followers and driving physical footfall into commercial sites.
- Analysing the long-term needs of the company’s social media strategy and offering quarterly reports to the management and executive teams, outlining any necessary changes to the overall digital marketing plan
- Creating captivating content for an organisation’s social media sites, which may include writing blogs, articles, posts and multimedia content
- Monitoring and responding to customer feedback, comments and social media posts
- Developing and overseeing competitions and campaigns to draw attention to our commercial brands and trading sites.
- Setting measurable goals for campaigns, measuring and showing the Return on Investment (ROI)
- Creation of the bi monthly newsletter to communicate updates with our traders, other Council services and ward members.
The role is a full time position which includes weekend work as mandatory to capture live feeds and communication in all our markets.
You must have experience of managing multiple social media accounts and able to create digital content to promote the small businesses across all our Markets and Street trading sites. You should be able to use your own initiative and love putting your organisational and creative skills to good use. You will need to be articulate, with sound written and verbal communications. Above all, you need a ‘can do’ attitude and a desire to deliver exceptional customer service.

Strategy and Communications sits at the centre of the organisation, bringing together several teams with organisation-wide remits and mutual collaboration opportunities. The work of the directorate’s teams includes delivery of major events, designing and leading public affairs or marketing campaigns, providing data, evidence and analysis, leading cross-organisational programmes, to making sure we plan for and can respond to emerging events or emergencies in our city.
<h2>About the team</h2>
The Internal Communications team helps colleagues to understand the organisation’s priorities so that they have the information they need to do their jobs, and to help them feel inspired and motivated to deliver for London. We do this through developing communications plans around our biggest priorities, working with senior leaders, and running a range of channels including leadership and staff events, email newsletters, and intranet news and blogs.
<h2>About the role</h2>
This role is a one-year maternity cover.
Key responsibilities include:

<li>Supporting the delivery of our internal communications and engagement strategy</li>
<li>Creating and delivering high-quality, engaging content for various internal communication channels, including newsletters, intranet, emails, and digital signage</li>
<li>Contributing to the delivery of staff engagement events including staff briefings, conferences, and workshops</li>
<li>Providing advice and recommendations to stakeholders to deliver effective internal communications</li>
<li>Providing day-to-day support for our intranet</li>
<li>Responsible for maintaining Internal Communications planning and schedules&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<h2>What your day will look like&nbsp;</h2>
<ol>
<li>Plan, edit and produce regular internal communications including our staff e-newsletters. This involves planning content, liaising with and interviewing colleagues to source content, writing and editing articles, photography and video, distribution and measurement.</li>
<li>Plan, write and edit content for the intranet</li>
<li>Organise regular staff presentations and coordinate other large staff briefings, including planning and sourcing topics, liaising with speakers, organising logistics and promoting events through internal communications.</li>
<li>Provide support and encouragement for teams and network groups in engaging GLA staff including advising on tailored communication campaigns.</li>
<li>Coordinate communications including announcements, briefings, cascade messages and senior leadership meetings.</li>
<li>Provide support developing a flexible, motivated and responsive workforce, liaising with organisational development colleagues.</li>
<li>Realise the benefits of London’s diversity by promoting and enabling equality of opportunities and promoting the diverse needs and aspirations of London’s communities.</li>

<h2>Skills, knowledge and experience</h2>

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
