We have an exciting opportunity to join our team to provide maternity cover until June 2026 as Contract Manager supporting the Council to deliver its Council Plan and Best Value Strategy.
Working within the Strategic Purchasing, Procurement & Contract Management Team, the successful applicant will play a pivotal role to lead and enforce the performance management of strategic contracts and ensure services receive an efficient, effective and market leading commercial support service.

About the role
Working within the Finance Business Unit the Contract Manager will lead and enforce the performance management of strategic contracts, ensuring high standards of service are delivered by our supply partners. You will work in a varied and rewarding environment with a range of stakeholders ensuring that the service and business unit achieves the key priorities set out in its corporate plan and delivers the core strategies adopted by the Council.
Reporting to the Strategic Contracts Business Partner you will be responsible for managing the performance of strategic suppliers with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure best practice contract management is embedded. The role will predominantly focus on managing the Council’s schools Private Financing Initiative (PFI) contracts and you will develop close, effective relationships with supply partners and schools. You will also support the delivery of projects to ensure schools continue to provide the appropriate environment for delivering education and council strategies.
The postholder will adopt a hybrid / agile approach to working arrangements allowing for home working alongside a central office location in Barnsley.
About you
You will have experience of contract management and leading this for different types of complex contracts such as services and works. You will be an enthusiastic and dynamic professional who has excellent commercial, analytical, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. You will have a passion for best practice and demonstrable experience of managing performance to achieve core priorities and outcomes, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance.
You will be well informed of and be able to implement changing local and national policy issues and build strong and productive relationships with customers and stakeholders including Executive Directors, Members, and external partners. You will be the type of person who thrives on a challenge and can use your skills to make improvements that really make a difference.
You will be committed to continuous improvement, a key focus of the Council and demonstrate this by your own desire for continued professional development and training in the role.
