The Role
Are you a forward-thinking Building Surveyor looking to make a real difference to our community?
We're on the hunt for a talented, motivated, and experienced Building Surveyor to help us maintain safe, sustainable, and high-quality public buildings. You'll play a vital role in safeguarding and enhancing our diverse property portfolio, which includes our principal officer, depot facilities, investment and commercial assets and wide range of the weird and the wonderful.
o Lead Inspections & Maintenance strategies:
Be the expert our council turns to for condition surveys, defect diagnosis, and proactive maintenance strategies.
o Drive Sustainability & Compliance:
Support our mission to meet environmental targets by advising on energy efficiency, sustainability, and regulatory standards including CDM, fire safety, asbestos, and legionella.
o Own Projects from Start to Finish:
Specify, procure, and manage contracts. Oversee everything from contractor performance to quality assurance—keeping projects on time, on spec, and on budget.
o Be a Trusted Advisor:
Provide high-quality & reliable technical advice to council leaders, elected members, and the community. Help shape long-term property strategies that serve thousands.
o Collaborate Across Teams:
Work with Estates, Planning, H&S, Sustainability teams and external stakeholders to ensure our buildings meet evolving community needs and ensure our portfolio is fit for the future.
What You’ll Be Doing:
o Conducting detailed building condition surveys & reports
o Managing refurbishment & maintenance contracts
o Ensuring health & safety compliance across all sites
o Leading on building-related sustainability improvements
o Coordinating with contractors, tenants, and council departments
o Delivering technical advice on regulations, design, and repairs
o Administering budgets, procurement, and financial processes
o Supporting the development of our long-term asset management strategy
What you’ll bring to the Team:
o RICS or equivalent professional qualification,
o Extensive experience in the role of Building Surveyor,
o In-depth knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, building pathology, and health & safety
o Proven experience managing public-sector building projects
o Strong surveying, contract management, and technical reporting skills
o Confident communicator and effective collaborator
o Proficient in interpreting plans, tender documents, and condition reports
o A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous professional development
o Full UK driving licence and access to transport (essential)

o Competitive Salary: MG2 – £50,497 - £59,423 per annum (pro rata)
