About the team
Hertfordshire County Council's Maintenance Coordination Team have a lead role in the delivery of Highway Maintenance activities ranging from producing the Council's annual Highway maintenance programmes, coordinating activities between other service partners that deal with carriageway, footway and drainage works and coordinating urgent infrastructure matters relating to the highway as they arise. The Team also delivers various in year programmes of work often at short notice liaising with contractors and other service providers; along with overseeing typically £70m of highways budget annually.
With ever increasing focus and commitment to efficient highways drainage services, this is an exciting opportunity to work in the Maintenance Coordination Team helping to ensure our network and assets are fit for purpose.
About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and pro-active individual to join us in undertaking a variety of mainly drainage related functions to help us deliver our commitments.
As an Engineering Project Manager your focus will primarily be on emerging public highway drainage issues. You will identify and apply appropriate methodologies and standards to produce effective and innovative solutions. You will also get the opportunity to work closely with other team members and the Council's wider drainage community and delivery partners, managing both assigned and your own portfolios of work including assisting with the management of various budgets and handling general casework and correspondence as required. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the Highways Service by suggesting and exploring new ideas, methods and ways of promoting sustainable drainage solutions and drainage resilience.

About you
Essential
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field or relevant experience.
- Proven experience in highway maintenance, drainage systems, and project management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively whilst demonstrating value for money
- Ability to work closely with team members and the wider community.
- Whilst not essential, a sound understanding of working within a political environment and experience of dealing with elected Members, MPs and other high-profile engagement would be highly beneficial.
