Deputy Headteacher 3-16 (x2 positions) Abertillery Learning Community

Appointment for Autumn Term (or as early as possible) 

This is an exciting opportunity to apply for one of two brand new senior leadership posts at Abertillery Learning Community!

The governing body are seeking to appoint two ambitious and aspiring deputy headteachers to work closely with the headteacher within a unique 3-16 organisation as a triad for change!

The two posts are open to senior leaders with primary and secondary expertise, as well as leaders who might have experience of through schools across Wales - and beyond, but both posts will require the successful applicants to lead across the full age and ability range as well as fully embrace and embody the 3-16 ethos.

The school has made some significant strides in aspects of wellbeing and leadership and the governing body now want to add capacity to the senior leadership team to continue the learning journey by appointing dynamic and forward-thinking leaders who are keen to innovate, impact and inspire both staff and pupils in being the best that they can be.

Applications are welcome from existing deputy headteachers, heads of school and assistant headteachers who are ready to take the next step to drive improvement in a school that is committed to improving the life chances of every single pupil.

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria: 

The successful candidate will:

• Have recent experience of leadership at assistant headteacher, head of school, or deputy headteacher level
• Take a lead whole school anti-racist practices, to actively promote and celebrate diversity across the school community
• Be highly visible within the community, actively developing effective and integrated community and school working relationships
• Believe in the importance of strong, positive pupil well-being and promote values that develop our pupils’ wellbeing and love of learning
• Be an exemplary teacher with the highest expectations of themselves and others
• Be an advocate of children’s rights
• Have high expectations for the teaching, learning, behaviour and attitude across the school to ensure high expectations and appropriate challenge for all
• Have a passion for teaching and learning, with high aspirations for all
• Demonstrate an appetite for professional learning that impacts upon pedagogy, supporting professional growth across our school
• Have proven skills to model and develop high quality teaching and learning across school
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to securing the highest quality provision and outcomes for children
• Lead by example, and have proven experience and success, with an understanding of and a working knowledge of KS4 qualifications reform and accountability measures, or how to secure progress in each of the progression steps across the primary phase.
• Have a good understanding of the National Mission for Wales and curriculum reform
• Be a strategic thinker with proven leadership experience, good organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills

We will provide good support to the successful candidate who will work closely with the Headteacher as part of the senior leadership team, in securing the effective running of Abertillery 3-16 Learning Community
