Clerk to the Governing Body
CLERK TO THE GOVERNING BODY
Part-time, term-time only. Required to start in January 2024.
Approximately 20-25 hours per month (to be reimbursed by timesheet)
This is a key role providing administrative and procedural advice to the Governing Body, reporting to the Chair of Governors.
This vital position ensures the effectiveness of the governing board by meeting the administrative and procedural requirements and enabling the board to have successful discussions. Primarily the clerk is responsible for preparing agendas in consultation with the Headteacher and the Co-Chairs of Governors; taking and writing up the minutes at governor meetings, and distributing documentation and other information to the governing body. The clerk will also need to become familiar with the DfE’s Governance Handbook, Clerking Competency Framework and provide accurate advice to governors as necessary.
There are usually 6 meetings of the full governing body per year plus 12 committee meetings. FGB meetings are held on Wednesdays at 6-8pm, Teaching and Learning committee meetings are held on Wednesdays at 5:15-7:15pm, and finance committee meetings are on Friday mornings at 8:30-10:30am.
The expectation is that these are face to face meetings with Clerk attending all face to face.
The successful candidate will also be expected to attend a termly clerks’ briefing session held by the Local Authority, which is usually held online during daytime hours, and to take advantage of other training sessions that may be offered.
Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential. The job requires someone who is a good communicator, who works well on their own using their own initiative and as part of a team.
